Today, we had the pleasure of visiting the World Affairs Council to watch a series of short films called “Children of Reentry,” produced by New American Media. All of the films were produced by young filmmakers in the Bay Area. Each tells the story of how incarceration impacts parents and their children.
The stories are heartbreaking and, at the same time, uplifting, because they show the impact that incarceration has on children and families, but also the unconditional love that a child has for his or her parent, and a parent for his or her child. Through the voices of formerly incarcerated parents and their children, they convey that the bond and love between parent and child is not broken, even after years of separation, although it may be shaken.
Each film is very short, under 5 minutes, but so powerful. For anyone who doesn’t understand that incarcerated people and their families are no different from anyone else, that their families are like our families, their struggles similar to our struggles, these films will show you all of this and more.

We promise you will be moved and inspired.
